Frequently Asked Questions: Scribe
Q:Why do you require a two-year commitment for part-time scribes?
A:The reason we must require a two-year commitment is two-fold: 1) To maintain continuity in the program, we cannot have 100%turnover every year; 2) The one-month training period is a huge undertaking each summer, and training all new scribes would be logistically impossible.
Q:Do I have to have a background in medicine to apply to the Scribe Program?
A:No. While previous medical experience may add to your experience as a scribe, we do not require previous experience. We conduct a comprehensive training program which will teach you everything you need to know.
Q:As a scribe, will I always work with the same doctor?
A:Each scribe is scheduled to work alonside a single doctor for the duration of a single shift, but is typically scheduled to work with a different doctor on different shifts.
Q:Is it necessary to turn in all of the additional items (immunizations, recommendations) with the application, or may I mail them in separately?
A:You may mail them in separately or together. If the interview time is approaching, you may want to turn the application in quickly, then send in the remaining information, or bring it to the interview. At the very least, we need the application and transcripts to schedule your interview.
Q:The last page of the application is confusing, what do I need to do?
A:The "Application for Preceptee" is a form required by the hospital. You should fill out the top portion of the form, then sign next to "Applicant's Signature" in the first box. Next, have a representative from your university sign in the last box. The "Preceptor" is the hiring physician, and you may leave this signature blank.
Q:You asked for my immunization records, but I can't locate them. What do I do?
A:Don't worry, just send in your application with a short note explaining the situation. If you are hired, we can run a series of tests to see which immunizations you need.
